In 2025 CRS received a sport and recreation grant from the Davencare Foundation. The Davencare Foundation’s aim is “to enrich the lives of others, improve health and wellbeing, support innovation/arts, and enhance impactful change.”

The grant from Davencare has enabled many children from CRS supported families to participate in sporting and recreational activities that they otherwise could not access.  In addition, the grants also provide opportunities for the parents and children to engage with others facilitating social engagement, increasing confidence in English and connecting with the wider community.

These opportunities have had significant positive impacts across several cases:

  • A primary school-aged student with learning challenges was able to take part in a computer coding course, which boosted their confidence and sense of achievement, positively affecting both their home and school life.
  • A teenage student experiencing emotional difficulties joined a local volleyball team, providing valuable social connections, skill development, and improved wellbeing through team participation.
  • Another teenager was able to pursue her interest in dance, attending classes that enhanced her physical and emotional health, encouraged leadership, and culminated in public performances with a self-started dance troupe.
  • Many CRS-supported children have benefited from swimming lessons, helping address high drowning risks within refugee communities. This initiative is especially important given past tragic losses, and allows families to access lessons in flexible ways, leading to real progress in swimming ability.
